Is Your Front Door Sabotaging Your Success?

An expert Classical Feng Shui consultant will be able to tell about 75% of what's happening in your life by analyzing your front entrance, bedroom and kitchen. Sounds unbelievable, but it's not. Advanced Classical Feng Shui formulas can forecast the impact these areas will have on occupants of the home.

The more people who pass through a doorway, the more active the flow of energy and the more influential the door becomes. While these calculations are tied to the unique energy makeup of you and your home, these general principles can help you ensure that your front door radiates positive energy:

1. Your front door creates a first impression for you and others who enter. A home with a welcoming entrance will put visitors at ease and attract good fortune. The path leading to your doorway should be clear and open so that there are no obstacles blocking the flow of energy into your home. Remove old newspapers, garden hoses, bicycles, overgrown or dead plants and trees. Keeping the path open allows good opportunities to flow into your life. Also clean away any cobwebs. Having an attractive doormat, and planting lush flowers and plants along the walkway and near the front entrance encourages good energy to enter your home and makes your home more inviting.

2. A front door that opens clockwise into the home channels more energy inside. All doors should open fully and easily. Remove anything placed behind a door that doesn't allow it to open completely. Re-consider any self-closing mechanisms - or anything that lets a door open or close automatically: your door should symbolize that you are in control. Are you feeling beset by one obstacle after another? Get out your oil can and eliminate any squeaks, creaks or locks that are hard to open. Repair and spruce up your front door as soon it shows any of these signs of wear and tear.

3. A solid front door is better than a glass door and provides more protection and support. Glass paneling above the door is okay. Your house number or name should be clearly visible. Positioning the individual numbers of your address on an upward slant is auspicious too. The clearer the identification, the better it is for your career, recognition and an active social life.

4. Your front door should be proportionate in size to the home. If it is too large, it can cause financial difficulty and opportunities to be lost. If it is too small, it can create discord within the family. Also, if the front door is made up of two panel sections, then they should be equal in size and color.

5. Your front door should not face churches, cemeteries or funeral homes. These places illicit a tremendous amount of yin energy and can potentially cause depression, illness, fears and the potential for financial loss. You can plant bushes, small trees or add a retaining wall to obstruct the view from these unfortunate sites. However, do not plant a single tree directly in line with your front door since it will block beneficial energy from entering your home.

6. Your front door should not face telephone poles or sharp corners (known as poison arrows) from neighboring rooftops or buildings. The electromagnetic voltage emanating from electrical stations or telephone poles can cause health difficulties. And poison arrows pointing at your front door can cause bad luck, illness amongst children or even problems in career or business. While it is best to avoid such an entrance, you can plant small trees to block the view. A more expensive cure would be to reorient the front door.

7. Your front entrance should not face a narrow gap between two buildings. If so, it can potentially cause your savings to be squandered away. In both authentic Feng Shui and Vaastu, what you see is what you get. So, no "gaps" and neither should your front door face a dumpster or garbage heap -- not even one that is far away. (I know this seems like common sense but just recently I saw a few homes facing this.) By hiding the view, you will minimize the negative effects coming from an adverse site. Plant small bushes or add a small retaining wall to cover up any such sight.

8. Your front door should preferably open into a large bright foyer or a living room. It should feel warm and welcoming. You should not be greeted by a wall when entering your home. On a subconscious level, it is as if you are daily walking into a wall which is blocking you as you try to move forward in life. Place a picture on this wall that has depth and dimension to it. You could place a mirror on a side wall but do not place a mirror directly in front of the main door.

9. In Asian countries, people will take off their shoes just inside the front entrance. Just imagine all the dust, dirt and dead energy our shoes bring into our home. Taking shoes off not only keeps your home purer, it keeps you more grounded to your home's beneficial earth energies. As C. Jung said, "When you walk with naked feet, how can you forget the earth." If you do remove your shoes when entering your home, keep them in a closet rather than blocking the front entrance. Culturally, westerners may not have the same outlook. So it is important then to at least clean and replace your doormat regularly since it also absorbs dirt, dust and stagnant energy.

10. If you enter through your garage door or another side entrance, then that door serves as your main entrance. The first place you come into when entering your home influences your state of mind. It is important than that this area also be clean and organized. Place a welcome sign in the garage or greet yourself with an inspirational photo or saying that makes you smile. Paint the room an attractive color and beautify this space just as you would the formal entrance.

In essence, the experience of entering your home should be like meeting a best friend -- one who is warm, welcoming and ready to support you and put you at ease. By making the adjustments recommended above, your warm, welcoming entrance will help attract good fortune to your home.

Healing Through Zen

"The whole world is medicine, what is the illness?"

When some people suffer they take medication, others seek therapy, many read books or talk to friends. A few, however, become students of Zen. Although much has been made of the connections between Zen and psychology, to really understand Zen healing, it is also necessary to be understand the difference between healing from the Zen and psychological point of view.

From the psychological point of view, emotional pain is a message that something is wrong, conflict has arisen, defenses are weakening. If a patient came to a therapist and asked, "Is this all there is?" they would be seen as depressed. In Zen practice this very same question is considered to be symptomatic of health. Students are told to dwell on this question continually. The question itself is medicine and holds healing in the palm of its hands.

"Is this all there is?" could be considered a koan, a conundrum that cannot be answered logically, which, however, when worked with, helps burst the bubble of illusion we live in.

From the Zen point of view, all beings are ill. They are in the grip of three poisons - greed, anger and delusion (ignorance). However, by seeing these afflictions for what they are, by not chasing after them or making them real, they can break the hold they have upon our lives. As a student asks, "Is this all there is?" they are breaking through the limitations they live with, opening to a larger vista, where true health is possible.

Here are some other ways in which healing through Zen is different:

From the psychological point of view, suffering arises when desire cannot be satisfied. Patients are advised to seek healthy ways to meet their needs. The deeper question of whether these so-called needs are necessary, good for them, or whether they are poisons in disguise is not taken into account.

From the Zen point of view, desire is tricky; greed is insatiable. No matter how much we have, we want more. Basically, we need little, but craving develops, along with attachment to what we have and then addiction. Much of our lives can be spent accumulating goods, people, credentials, and unnecessary desires. As we cling to what we have; it often becomes our identity, and we become fearful of losing it. Our precious life energy is thus used up, chasing after that which we do not need. This process is the true illness, causing endless suffering. No matter how tightly we grasp what we have, sooner or later life gives and then takes away. The pain of loss is then searing.

In order to heal this illness, we embark upon Zen practice, and learn how to let go, receive anew, and become grateful for whatever life brings. We also learn to become aware of the difference between our true needs and unnecessary wants. As we do not spend as much time chasing, seeking and yearning for that which will never satisfy, we become planted in the present moment and be able to fully taste, digest and appreciate whatever life brings our way.

Another great difference between Zen and psychology is their approach to ourselves. Psychology works endlessly on self improvement and self actualization, trying to overcome all kinds of personality flaws. Zen is not much interested in personality either. Its sights are set on a different realm.

Instead, when a person comes to the Zen Center they're told to take off their shoes and place them carefully on the wooden shoe rack carefully.

They are to "Pay attention to what they're doing. Sloppy shoes, sloppy mind."

For Zen the quality of even the smallest act is of enormous importance.


Rather than spin out daydreams about ourselves and analyze them, rather than grab for personal attention, individuals are instructed to pay close attention, moment by moment, to whatever they are doing right now.

Feelings and thoughts which come and go are like the wind. They aren't taken seriously. The student is asked to stop reacting mindlessly and automatically to everything that comes along.

Instead of developing a fancy personality, she develops awareness, simplicity and patience.

"I'm hurting," a student might say to the Zen Master.

"If you hurt, you hurt. If you don't, you don't," the Zen Master might reply.

"But I want to know why," the student might insist.

"None of that will do you any good," the Zen Master will explain. "Just pay attention to each moment, pay attention. your breath. "

"But how will this help my misery?"

"Who said something's supposed to help your misery?" the Zen Master replies.

This past week we've had a few rainshowers and cooler, cloudy days, days that have been welcome in drought-ridden parts of California. And, I think, especially good for laying under the covers for sleeping in or taking naps. So today I chose to send you energy to refresh and revitalize you.

Sleep in. Take a nap. Get up. Breathe in deeply. Allow yourself to wake up refreshed and energized.

As always, I gratefully acknowledge the boost from you with open arms.

Yesterday I posted a message from my friend and former hula sister, Joy, who forwarded the articles and videos of the halau's performance at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian and Aloha Ball. The hula master, Kumu Hula Manu Ikaika, composed a mele oli (chant) and dance in honor of President Obama. Enjoy and checkout the previous posts.

Thank you, my friends, for just being you. Wonderful friends and healers. Following the inspiration of the mele oli, let us continue to make goodness flourish with aloha. And in that light, I encourage each of you to post your message to the blog. When I mentioned my trip to Palmdale in the last energy share, I received wonderful messages of love and encouragement, one of which I posted.

So anything that's happened and is affecting you now, pass it on. Or a recent event that's come to mind...sad, amusing, silly, frustrating, melancholy, joyful... We could all use the inspiration as we share aloha from our piko (deep within the heart and soul).

A Chant for Obama

My dearest friend and hula sister, Joy, shared this message with me the other day about the special chant and dance created by the hula master (and my former kumu), Manu Ikaika, in honor of Obama...


For other Obama fans and others who may be interested, here is a collection of links, etc., that talk about the special chant that our Kumu Hula, Manu Ikaika, wrote (and that the halau performed at the National Museum of the American Indian and the Aloha Ball) in honor of our new Prez: The chant is to be presented by Senator Akaka to President Obama one of these days ... a gift of aloha from the halau and, indeed, all of Hawaii--all of us proud of the first Hawaii-born President of the USA!

So did my sister, Alma, in Honolulu! Too funny--my sister reminded me that the newscaster actually said, "Take it away, Joy!" :-D :-D :-D

I joined my friend, Adlai Amor, for lunch at the National Press Club--leisurely enjoying watching the festivities on the TV screens there, just blocks away The National Mall where everyone had gathered for the historic occasion! The daughter of my cousin, Millie Arucan Masunaga, was flag girl with the Punahou marching band (the President's high school alma mater)--that made watching the lively inaugural parade a lot of fun!

Hi Lydia,

I want to give you my deepest regrets and want you to know I feel sorry for the lost of such a little girl. How sad your family must be. I think of you all.

It would be wonderful if I could be of some comfort to your family and you. I felt it once after a dream how it would feel if I lost one of my boys and I never want to feel that again. If it helps just a tiny little bit than please add it to your blog. I be honoured.

Well Lydia , a lots of strength these days to you and all of your family. I will think of you and them. I like your family photo’s though! You know in that slideshow. You call it differently but I can’t remember just now.

I don’t normally dedicate the Beacons of Light to people but this month I have to make an exception as last week we all lost a great Lightworker and friend. Sonia Bos made her transition home on the 11th of January. Our hearts are with her husband Aat, family and the hundreds of thousands of people she has touched with her work. Sonia has been a guest on the VirtualLight broadcast and was one of the few guest presenters at the Human Angel Conference on 080808. Her messages about the Aquarian Age have helped many and will live on as her legacy. This month I am honored to dedicate the Beacons of Light to Sonia Bos. Well done Sonia. we will miss but always remember you.

In this message the group gave us a current overview from three different perspectives. They looked at current events in relationship to the Earth’s changing role, the sun’s changes and how that will affect everyone. On the cosmic level they mentioned an event that is taking place now that they say fits into the larger picture quite well. They talked about the particles from what we call solar storms to the seeds of the universe. They also related that there are times when these seeds are now being directly deposited into Earth’s magnetosphere. They say it is an intentional planting of seeds, intentional for the re-birth of planet Earth. Magical Moment

This time is magical. This place is magical because you have set it into motion. You have set your intent to have a magical experience on this planet and it is starting to happen. One by one you are being triggered into the things you love to do; you are being triggered into the sacred contracts that you set for yourself. You knew what you wanted to do, and you chose your direction. You placed a veil between the two parts of your brain to completely obliterate your memories of Home and your own power of who you are. Then you came in to play a game of Hide and Seek. You bumped into walls and other people, all the thinking you have done wrong or made a mistake. In fact, you were simply wandering around trying to find that connection, that part of Home which has you completely connected through your own higher self.

Now that is becoming more important. We wish to give you an overview on several different levels today. We are going to show you a little bit of what is happening on both the cosmic level and on the Earth level. Then we will tell you the possibilities on the personal level, for many of you are now prepared to move. You have placed yourself at the edge of the cliff waiting for that gentle breeze to push you off. Well, a gentle breeze has just come along. We are known for gently pushing people off the cliff. That is one of the things we love to do as we spread our wings, to re-mind you of who you really are. This time we will share with you some of the overviews of not what is ahead, not necessarily what is in your future or what your destiny is, but simply the direction you are going and the overview of what is taking place on Earth to accommodate this.

Cosmic Overview

We will speak first on the cosmic level, because cosmic events are starting to form in your section of the universe. The cosmic events are starting to take place to build to a climax which we will simply call an event. That is all that is being referred to, even in your scientific world at this moment. But everyone who is watching sees only one thing: it will be a big event. Nobody knows exactly how it is going to happen or how it is going to take place. Let us share with you our perspective.

First, you are having connections with the sun which you have had for a number of years. It has to do with the re-structuring of the magnetics of Earth and has been going on for some time, reaching a conclusion a few years back. What also took place is that a lot of the solar flares coming through the sun were energy from Home. It is energy through the central sun directed through your own sun; the solar flares are explosions that occur space from the energy contained within the sun. The challenging part is that when you measure the energy of any one of these bursts you would realize that only three of those bursts could be contained within the sun, and yet you have seen hundreds such bursts. Where is the energy coming from? What is happening? Is there a chemical reaction going on in the sun? What is taking place?

We tell you the sun is not what you think it is. It is not an object of its own. It is a dimensional portal for energy and has been from the very beginning of time. Even the warmth and gamma rays that help you live on this planet are constantly coming into your world from that portal. It is a portal that comes directly from Home through the Central Sun, so things that are set in motion will normally happen through your sun. It is your energy distribution network.

There are two events unfolding right now to accommodate what is ahead. Scientists believe these to be new discoveries, things that have been happening for a very long time that they have just discovered. However, this is not the case; these things have never happened before. One of these events is the melding of the Earth’s magnetic field with the sun’s magnetic field. The second is the recent discoveries regarding the particles contained in a solar storm. We would never have used the word solar storm to describe this event. These two discoveries work together to open the magnetic field of Earth just long enough to fill it with a generous amount of these seeds. This is all in preparation for a big, yet undefined, event to come.

Earth Sun Connection

From the larger perspective, we will tell you the interactions between the sun and the Earth are changing. The earth is being charged by the sun once again; the first time was a magnetic charge from the solar flares. Now the sun and earth have formed a connection point. It has been labeled as a portal because the two energy fields of the Earth and sun occasionally connect and stretch out through time and space to connect the energy fields of each one. During those times, particles are passed from one to the other. You have known these occurrences only as solar storms to this point, because that is the only word you have been able to use to understand what this is.

However, it is much more than this; it is the life force of the universe.

If you were talking about the physical body, we would call it sexual energy; this is the life force of the energy of All That Is that is flowing and connecting all things.

These solar particles created planet Earth in the first place. These particles could be called particles of possibilities, because they will carry with them anything you create in the process. Re-member, it is your creation for you are the creators of Earth. There is no grand plan in place. There is no bearded god who looks like Charlton Heston that is going to stand over everybody saying what is right and what is wrong. You are creating your reality with every thought that you have. The Earth is adjusting to your thoughts. That is who you really are; you create the path just seconds before your foot hits the ground, because you expect it to be there and therefore it is created. Your relationship with Earth and all the cosmos will be clearer in the next three years as some of these events unfold.

Birth of the Third Earth

As you find the Earth and sun connect, some of the things that have been called solar flares, or coronal mass ejections, will be further understood because these particles are passing life to planet Earth. Planet Earth began as one of these particles. It began with an energy field around one of these particles and the field began to grow. It began to give form to the intention of god. God had a thought to create planet Earth. Many of you think of god as an omnipresent being more powerful than everyone else, when it is actually you who are that thought. When you think of things of that nature, you create them.

You have been creating something we call the Third Earth, a thought of god. It is your collective thoughts of what you would like to have and what you would like to see take place on planet Earth as it evolves. Your thoughts have formed a hologram for many forms of light. With your light, as you have a thought and as you create something with your thoughts, you send a beam of light. When many of those beams cross at different angles they create a three-dimensional object called a hologram from this particle. The hologram that you have created of the Third Earth is now in the process of over-imprinting the original hologram of Earth. You are redesigning planet Earth.

A while back someone asked, “Tell us more about the sick Earth. How can we help planet Earth to heal and to recover and move to the next level?” We told you very clearly that the Earth is not sick. She is pregnant. She is about to give birth. That is what you are looking at. She is giving birth to your thoughts. The Third Earth is being born; the seeds are now entering through the particles that you are now receiving through the sun. You are starting to see new discoveries of things that have just started to happen. It is incredibly exciting from our perspective, because we see you pulling the veil apart every part of the day to see what is really taking place.

Higher Vibration Hologram Over-Imprints Original Hologram

You will experience things start to unfold. On a collective basis you will see changes taking place in the business sector, as well as all organizations including governments. If the template or base of the company will embrace and adapt to the age of empowerment, then it will flourish. Most companies and organizations will have some changes they must deal with. How they deal with those changes will determine their future in most cases. If the collective can not adapt to the higher vibration it will fall apart very quickly. The economic flow problem you are now experiencing is an example of this. You will see more of the same, because when you have a high vibrational planet and a low vibrational planet the hologram over-imprints the original hologram. Those elements which are not of a high enough vibration to make the shift will have difficulty, and many times will fall apart.

Yet, this is perfect on your path because the Shiva must come in and destroy everything so that the Shakti can build it anew.

That is what is taking place on the larger scale. You will see it happening everywhere—not just in the economic systems and organizations. You will see it with groups of people or friends, and in your own environment on many levels. Without warning something will fall apart, or you will lose something only to make room for something else even better. There is nothing wrong with this process, as it is exactly what you have been asking and waiting for. It is the ascension process and the evolution of Earth that you have set into motion yourselves.

Take this opportunity to shine your light every place that you can. This is the trigger, the time to celebrate your light. The Earth is pregnant and she will be giving birth to the new Earth—your creations, your designs, a place that will support you no matter what you do, no matter which direction you try to go. You have created for yourself a magical environment. Do not fear it now that it is finally coming. Step forward and create it into exactly what you need.

As the Earth is going through a pregnancy, she will go through some grumpy times just like any woman going through pregnancy. There will most likely be some hiccups in this pregnancy, but you can nurture her and work with her. You can work to coach the Earth through this pregnancy, and to help bring this next evolutionary process of your own design right here, right now. This is the creation of Heaven on Earth. It becomes imperative that you now step into your own right, and that you now step into your higher vibration that has been waiting there for you to hold your energy. Only you can do it. Nobody else can take that step for you. We can push all we want, but if you are not willing to walk to the edge of that cliff and spread your wings, you will never know that you can fly. You will never understand that you cannot go into something without creating the magic around it. You will always have it. You may think that you just happened to fall into this or into that, but we tell you that you can only experience it if you are out there falling. So get out there and fall. Get out there and make mistakes. If you wish to call them mistakes, that is fine. Whatever it is, the forward direction at this point in your lives is what will make all the difference in creating your reality to your liking, instead of the default answer that will be handed to those who do not create their own reality.

New Rules

Times have changed, dear ones. You are no longer sitting here as a result of circumstances. You are sitting here by your own accord. Everything in your life is by your own conscious design. Take responsibility and bring yourself full of light, love and laughter first. Fill that cup first with your passion and doors will open for you to spread it throughout the universe. The doors will open for you to continue to create the Third Earth. They will open for you to create something magical that has never been there before. The time is now.

We are incredibly excited, for all eyes throughout the universe are watching planet Earth. Skeptics have thought that planet Earth would never work without the rules, guidelines, and the things that you thought you needed to keep you in place. Instead, you took the rules off and said, “Let us play a game with no rules at all, a game with no pre-direction. Let us play a game that is totally up to us and see if we can find our passion, see if we can find everything that we wanted to find.” It is before you now, directly on your path in whatever direction you move. It is easy for you to take a look right at this moment and say, “Well, here is the direction we are going and here is where I am going to be five years from now.” We ask you to please not use the old forms of creation any longer, for they will severely limit you. If you expect to go here, spirit has to scale down the plans for you in order to make that happen. Let it go. Do not set limits for yourself or worry about the destination. The destination is the illusion. It is the journey, all the experiences that you have from one point to the other, that matter. Those experiences are what life is about. You are not spirits trying to awaken from the dream. Awakening is easy. You just die and go Home, and that is that. No problem. Staying here and carrying the light within your physical body in your daily experiences is where the challenge is, and you are doing incredibly well.

Preparing for a Cosmic Event

You will witness cosmic events. You will see excitement from the scientists who follow those cosmic events; because they can see that something big is building. They still do not know what it is or exactly the direction it is headed, but neither does anyone else because you have not finished the creation yet. You have simply opened the door. This is your job, not ours. We are not here to help you stay on your path. However, we are here to help you re-member who you really are and what you came in with from the beginning. This is an empowered society that you are building unlike any society you have built before. Can you imagine a society established with customs instead of laws? It is what you are creating, dear ones, a place where each person is encouraged to carry their own empowerment without the need for leaders to take us here or to take us there.

This is why we have asked you to begin spelling god with a little “g,” so you can find an entity to take your hand and walk one step to the next along with you instead of sitting on a high pedestal telling you which way you have to go. It is time for new relationships.. It is time to take your power in any way that you can to move into that area of passion, and even into those areas that you are somewhat afraid of. Yet, when you do, if you will just reach out your hand, you will see all the others right there, too

There was a very wise man who once said, “I have figured out how to get everything I want in my life. I do it by helping other people get what they want in their lives.” That is the cycle. That is the process you have come with for you are those who are called Lightworkers. It is a chosen title, not one we put on you, but a title that you put on yourself. You are the ones who have agreed to open those doors. You are the ones who have agreed to be the mirrors to people as they start to awaken, so that you can reflect their magnificence the same way that we reflect yours.

You have come so far, so fast. None of this was expected and we are so incredibly in love with you because you are us. You are the hand of god on planet Earth. You have manual dexterity in your world that is divine. It is your nature. We are so honored to be in the room with you, not the other way around. You have created our greatest hopes and dreams already and now you are taking it even further.

We only have three little reminders for you. Treat each other with the greatest of respect for you are looking in the eyes of god. Nurture one another every chance you get and as your path becomes difficult, share that with others so that they may soften their path. Know that it is a beautiful game you are playing here on planet Earth and play well together.

Space within Your Space

Steve and I keep very busy with our Lightworker schedule throughout the year. We make a promise to ourselves to keep balanced by taking a month off from traveling during the summer and another one in the winter. This gives us a chance to catch up with all the Lightworker details plus it gives us time to see friends and family. We have had the pleasure of being home since right before Christmas until the end of January. We will present the first seminar for 2009, Spiritual Communication, in Las Vegas the last week of this month. Then we will be back to traveling seeing all the wonderful people who connect with us as spiritual family.

I treasure the experiences of our work but it is nice to slow down a little. We knew our time at home would not be as relaxing as we would have liked it to be. Our house is being remodeled due to a flood several months ago. This means there are workers here everyday demolishing our home and then rebuilding it. Although we have looked forward to the improvements, I don’t think either one of us were prepared for the total chaos that it involves. I have found it more challenging than Steve. We are lucky to have two houses on our property. The larger home is where we live and the back house is home to Lightworker. Steve’s office and our staff are in the back house. He is able to retreat to his own private, peaceful world while my office is in the main house where all the construction is being done.

I know myself. I am the type of person who loves to open her heart and time to anyone around me. But when I am home I need my space and time to center myself. When I take care of myself first then I have more to offer others. This is why the disruption in my daily routine has been difficult. At times there is not one room where I can be by myself without workers, dust and noise.

It is important for all of us to have our own space and time. Steve and I are always together. We have learned to give each other space within our togetherness. Even if we are in the same room we know when to honor each other by giving each other quiet, alone time. I can always tell when Steve is deeply connecting with the group. As much as I would love to ask what information he is receiving I wait, knowing he will share it with me when he is ready. Steve also honors my needs by giving me an hour in the morning to set the tone of my day.

I am aware that my thoughts create my life. I have decided to keep my thoughts focused only on what I choose to experience. Instead of dreading everyday of this process of improving our home I will concentrate on the finished picture of how beautiful our home will be at completion. Many times in life things seem to get worse in a situation before they get better. This is true with even home improvements. I have decided when I need a break I will find my peace. Right now as the construction continues I have taken my laptop outside to write this. I am enjoying the warm sunshine by our pool as I listen to the waterfall. I have created my own space within my space.

Please forgive me if I sound like I have been complaining about such small problems. In this world during these difficult times I do realize that I am very fortunate to have such a lovely home with special friends and family around me. We all have our human moments and this has been my lesson with learning how to handle it. I feel after a few bad moods I have bounced back to being my optimistic self again.

Whatever we are experiencing in life, whether it is a mild irritation like mine or a life changing event, know that if we can step outside of our space for a moment then we can get a renewed sense of the bigger picture of what we can learn from the situation.

Heaven


A gentle breeze brushes the trees;
The scent of roses fills the air.
Leaves flutter idly in the wind,
Dappling the warm noon sunlight
On the soft grass below.

I lie with my face to the sky,
Its jewel-like blue dazzling me
Before I close my eyes
To soak up the warmth of the sun,
Letting my thoughts wander where they will.

The grass tickles my bare feet,
And the breeze tugs at my hair.
I feel such a comforting warmth on my face,
Yet a pleasant coolness on my back.

I am perfectly content,
Lazily shifting to find more sun,
And I wonder why people always
Search for Heaven in the blue vault above
When they can find it here on earth,
For this is surely it.

With the warmth of the sun shining past the mountains on the lake of this clear and sunny day, I sent you a boost of energy to refresh and revitalize you. Take a few moments for yourself to breathe and recall a particularly joyful memory.

One that brings a smile to your face and maybe even a laugh.

Then call in the boost and let yourself feel completely infused with it. Begin your day with it and notice how alert and uplifted you feel throughout the week.

I gratefully acknowledge the boost from you with open arms. Thank you, my friends.

Yesterday I rode west towards Palmdale to attend a funeral for my aunt's adopted daughter who passed away at the age of 5. All of her adopted and biological family, relatives and friends came together from Palau, Hawaii, and all over California.

Summer, who was so aptly named, was celebrated at the service for the light she brought into the lives of all she touched in such a short time. I had only met Summer briefly last year before the family flew to Palau so she could be there one final time. But I will be forever grateful at how this little one connected me with certain relatives for the first time in 42 years.

For the first time I met my biological uncle who is living on O'ahu and just one of a few of my father's remaining siblings. I never met my father who died of a diabetic coma in 2005 and I never expected to meet his brother and sisters. Time is precious when my elders will not be long on this earth with few opportunities to be together like this.

So I dedicate this energy share to Summer. Thank you, dear one. Peace and Blessings to you.

Mozart and Mark

When it comes to my favorite choreographers and dances, Mark Morris is definitely at the top. His musicality shines through so clearly in classical music in the way that the movements play with and off the melody line as point-counterpoint. Of course, the ability to read music is tremendously useful as it helps a dancer choreographer to emphasize the nuances of rhythm and action. His 'Hard Nut' tongue-in-cheek sensibility shines through especially in his modern interpretation of the classic holiday ballet, The Nutracker.

Yo-Yo Ma and Mark Morris perform J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No.3 Prelude

Okay, here's another favorite and one that I think really showcases Mark's sense of irony and tragedy in his humor by naming his dance "Falling Down Stairs". I have the entire video collection of the Bach Cello Suites performed by Yo-Yo Ma and over the years I have always returned to play this particular one before the others. In the video for the Prelude, Mark talks about how a dream of one of his dancer's falling down stairs became the inspiration for the choreography....yowch!

Do You Get Enough Sleep?

Do you believe you get enough sleep? If you're like many of the people , you may not. Even more troubling, individuals are getting less shut-eye than they really think.

"People don't get enough sleep, and they get less sleep than they think," says Dr. Diane S. Lauderdale, a health studies expert at the University of Chicago. "As we learn more and more about the importance of sleep for health, we find evidence that people seem to be sleeping less and less."


Lauderdale and her team followed over the long haul nearly 670 38- to 50-year-olds, who wore movement detectors on their wrists and kept sleep journals. Lauderdale measured how long they slept, how long they needed to fall asleep and how much time they spent in bed.

Her team found that:

• White women slept the most, an average of six hours and 42 minutes a night, compared to the seven hours they thought they had slept.

• White women took the shortest time to fall asleep, 13 minutes; stayed in bed the longest, eight hours; and slept the most efficiently.

• Black men slept only five hours and six minutes a night, compared to only six hours they said they slept on weeknights.

• Black men had the hardest time falling asleep, 36 minutes; spent the least time in bed, seven hours; and they had less sleep efficiency.

• White men and black women slept about the same as their gender counterparts.

• Someone making $16,000 a year or less takes 28 minutes longer to fall asleep than someone who earns over $100,000, and gets 15 minutes less sleep.

Fewer worries or more control?

Lauderdale says the gender and racial differences help up even when she considered income, employment and other factors. But lower income was closely linked to how long it took to get to sleep and lower sleep efficiency.

"People who make more money may have fewer worries, or they may have more control over their sleep environment," Lauderdale says. "There were psychological factors like worry which kept people from sleeping. People who earn less might also have less quiet and comfortable bedrooms, or other health problems that complicate sleep."

Findings from Lauderdale's project appear in a recent American Journal of Epidemiology. In an editorial in the same journal, sleep expert Dr. Stuart F. Quan from the University of Arizona says the findings indicate African Americans may suffer from sleep deprivation, although he warned the results may not apply to all middle-aged blacks and whites.

And the problem of sleeplessness may be getting worse as 21st century life becomes more hectic. A century ago, people claimed to get an average of nine hours a night, but by 1960, the norm had dropped to eight hours. Nowadays, most people say they get between six and a half and seven hours, Lauderdale says.

"Many people believe that it's testimony to the active and important lives they lead not to overestimate their sleep," she says. "I try to get at least seven hours a night. I can't function the next day without it."

Warning signs

Quan, Lauderdale and other sleep experts recommend you get at least seven hours of sleep a night. Lauderdale concedes, however, that a century ago, people claimed to have slept nine hours a night, compared to the six-and-a-half hours people today say they sleep.

They warn if you have trouble sleeping, you may have:

• a higher rate of vehicle accidents;

• a higher risk for diabetes, overeating and high blood pressure;

• an inability to concentrate;

• trouble learning;

• decreased attention to detail.

10 tips on getting a good night's sleep

If you're having trouble getting a good night's sleep, follow these tips from the National Sleep Foundation:

• Maintain a regular bed and wake time schedule including weekends;

• Establish a regular, relaxing bedtime routine such as soaking in a hot bath or hot tub and then reading a book or listening to soothing music;

• Create a sleep-conducive environment that is dark, quiet, comfortable and cool;

• Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillows;

• Use your bedroom only for sleep and sex;

• Finish eating at least 2-3 hours before your regular bedtime;

• Exercise regularly, but complete your workout at least three hours before bedtime;

• Avoid the stimulant caffeine in coffee, tea, soft drinks and chocolate close to bedtime;

• Avoid nicotine, another stimulant, close to bedtime;

• Avoid alcohol, which is not a sedative, close to bedtime.

Palau Contemporary Dance

Here's a short video of Aisai and her friends in Susanville, California dancing together a Palauan contemporary dance, known as the 'matamatong'. This dance is usually taught to kids in elementary school and a fun activity for them to learn the language and dance as a group. Essentially, it's a dance about a person calling to an elder woman/women to watch them dance, how well they move around...and show off when they have an audience.

Doctor mistakes can mean the difference between life and death, and sadly, these errors are all too common. According to a study by the Institute of Medicine, medical mistakes in hospitals alone are the eighth-leading cause of death in the United States, exceeding those by car accidents, breast cancer, and AIDS. Fortunately, there are ways to reduce your risk. Read on to find out the three most common doctor mistakes, and learn how protect yourself.

1. Misdiagnosis. With all of the sophisticated medical exams available, it's hard to believe that misdiagnosis is still a widespread problem. But according to a National Patient Safety Foundation survey, 40 percent of people reporting a medical mistake cited a misdiagnosis or treatment error. In addition, many malpractice cases are based on misdiagnosis, and the most commonly misdiagnosed diseases include cancer, infection, appendicitis, aortic dissection, and clogged arteries. As experts explain, once doctors make a diagnosis, they may ignore information that would prove their diagnosis wrong. What's more, once one doctor has made a diagnosis, other doctors will almost always accept it as correct. If the original doctor failed to acknowledge a symptom or ask a crucial question, chances are subsequent doctors will do the same.

Protecting yourself. To avoid misdiagnosis, provide each doctor with a detailed history of your illness and as much information as possible about your symptoms. If you're not satisfied with your diagnosis, ask for more tests, and question your doctor about what else your symptoms could mean. Do not attempt to diagnose yourself, but be sure to research your symptoms and concentrate on being accurate with your doctor.

2. Incorrect assumptions. It's no secret that medical professionals are under pressure to get you in and out of the office. In fact, a typical doctor visit may last for only 15 minutes. As a result, physicians run the risk of stereotyping patients, then making a diagnosis based on what other patients like you may have, whether it's that stomach virus that's going around or a common condition for people of your age group. In addition, doctors may listen to the first few symptoms you describe, but after that, they may lose patience (a landmark 1984 study showed that, on average, patients were interrupted 18 seconds into explaining their problems, and less than 2 percent got to finish their explanations). When a doctor has incomplete patient information, this can set the stage for misdiagnosis.

Protecting yourself. Make sure that you're able to describe all of your symptoms, even if it means having to interrupt the doctor after he or she interrupts you. To improve patient-doctor communication, prepare a detailed list of your symptoms in advance, as well as a list of questions to ask. Also make sure your doctor is aware of your medical history, including allergies, prescriptions you're taking, previous diagnoses, and lab results.

3. Medication mixups. Doctors are notorious for their sloppy handwriting on prescriptions, and this actually leads to many medication errors. What's more, several drugs have similar names, which leads to additional confusion. For example, do you know the difference between the arthritis drug Celebrex, the anticonvulsant Cerebyx, and the antidepressant Celexa? It's easy to see that if one of these drug names was scribbled on a script, it could be mistaken for another. For this reason, the FDA has begun monitoring the names of drugs, and if they seem too similar, it attempts to get the drug agency to change the name.

Protecting yourself. Be sure your doctor communicates with you clearly about which drug you need, and double check with the pharmacist. In addition, ask your doctor and pharmacist whether there are any warnings you should be aware of; many drugs have up-to-date warnings that doctors fail to hear about because they already have a great deal of drug information memorized.
