Sei He Ki: Release Bound-up Energy

Let go. Holding tight to something causes blocks in our energy system. Release your hold and let go of control in order to trust the Universe.

Sei He Ki is one of the four original Reiki symbols given to Dr. Usui. It involves the release of negative or tension-producing emotions or thoughts. In the Archetypal Reiki system, we use Sei He Ki to release emotional debris and negative, outworn mental thought forms.

The word Sei He Ki is used for emotional, mental, or spiritual protection and purification. If you feel or sense that some negative or unwanted energy is operating in your life, you may use this mantra to release that entity or the sense of it.

The polarities within this archetype are detachment and enmeshment. To detach means to set free from emotional confinement, restraint, or bondage. When we detach from an idea, a thought, a feeling, or a person, we release our emotional claim on it. If we detach too much, be become cold and unfeeling. If we detach too soon, we have not given the situation a chance to change. If we detach too late, we become too invested in the situation.

Attachment is a part of our human nature. We want to be close to others. But too much attachment will result in suffocating or smothering. We become enmeshed or embroiled in another person's business, often to the detriment of our own. Too much attachment to our own feelings will result in codependency, a condition that is harmful to our own growth and that of others.

EXAMINE in your body whether you feel tightness and tension. Look at where you are holding on to something that needs to be released.

Consider how well you work with the concept of detachment and whether you are someone who becomes attached to others easily. You may love others freely, but there is the danger that you may cross over another's boundaries. Be sure that when you love people, you include yourself.

A refusal to let go may indicate that you are operating out of fear.

REFLECT on what happens if you tighten your grip on the issue you've identified. Tighten the grip; hold on tighter and tighter. Soon something will break - and it may be you!

AFFIRM with feeling: "Today I release ___________ in my life." Notice how you feel and what you think after doing this.

Sei He Ki Meditation

* You are in a hot-air balloon.

* There is an anchor holding you to earth even though you want very much to rise into the air. You look at the anchor and realize that it is composed of the thoughts and feelings that you've been holding on to even though they no longer serve you. You sit there for quite a while, wishing you could get off the ground. But the anchor of your attachment is holding you fast.

* Something strange is happening. There are seven (7) balloons on the anchor. You know intuitively that you must release these balloons, one at a time, in order for your hot-air basket to rise up to freedom.

* Finally, after much soul searching, you feel that maybe, just maybe, you might let go of one of the balloons. You choose the red one. You watch the red balloon float up and you feel yourself move up a tiny bit.

* You do the same thing with the orange balloon. You watch the orange balloon float up and you feel yourself move up a tiny bit more.

* Now the yellow balloon. You watch the yellow balloon float up and you feel yourself move up even more. This isn't too bad, you think. Now for the green one.

* The green balloon is harder to let go. It is your heart-space. It means a lot to you. But finally you let it go and you feel yourself move up quite a bit.

* You realize that there are three (3) more balloons holding you just above the earth, blocking your flight into the sky where you know you will find freedom.

* A blue balloon floats in front of your eyes, held to the basket by a thin string of silver. As you release this balloon and watch it float away, your basket rises higher yet.

* Then you let go of an indigo balloon and rise higher.

* The only balloon left now is a purple one with a golden string. This is the hardest balloon of all to release. After a bit more deliberating and checking with your insides, you let go of it all and release the last balloon.

* Now you are free! Your hot-air balloon rises quickly and settles to a perfect height just right for you to see your entire life spread out below you. You are truly free! You know that you trust the Universe.
