Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers - Live in Duluth, Minnesota

The quality of this live video isn't the greatest, but I've been inspired by Steve Martin's banjo playing and his love of bluegrass music.  I'm planning to add a few of his award winning albums to my collection.

Blue Ridge Mountain Dancers with Pete Seeger

You wouldn't think a young woman from a remote Pacific island would have heard of Appalachian dancing let alone fall in love with it and blue grass music.  But since those early years, the music and dance feels as though I have long lost cousins who have come to share their love of dance and music.

Whether you listen to and dance to Brazilian samba, bluegrass, blues, or Hawaiian slack key guitar, they are universal languages that anyone can speak...

Best Bluegrass Clog Dancing Video Ever Made

Call me old-fashioned or cheesy, but dance of any style never gets old, love bluegrass clog dancing!  Here's one I found on YouTube.

Chris Rodrigues & The Spoon Lady

I have not seen spoon playing in a very long time. It makes me so happy to see these 2 awesome players...wow!  I love music that touches you in a simple and direct way...anything bluegrass, blues, and now...spoons!

You can find more about Abby the Spoon Lady on her site, spoonladymusic.com/ and YouTube channel @Abby the Spoon Lady.

She's an amazing lady who has turned her life around from her very humble beginnings and I'm always looking for interesting people like her.

Sufism

Sufi Muslims practice tolerance, universal love and peace.  Rumi, world famous for his poetry and writings of love and longing, was a Sufi.

Sufis are heavily criticized by the orthodox Muslims for their use of music, dance, and mysticism.  They are continually prosecuted and killed to this day...

My Big Sister Joy

One of my former hula sisters, Joy Labez, sadly passed away last year.  I've always thought of her as an older sister I never had and grateful that she was a light in my life.  I'm also grateful that she was part of a larger circle of older sisters, both in the halau and for me...

Joy sent these pics to me in 2006 of the halau's performance at the National Museum of the American Indian concert on Friday, May 19th. The musicians from left to right are: Calvin "Gabby" Gabonia, Kumu Hula (hula master) Manu Ikaika, and Josh, Gabby's son.  Gabby and Josh have gone on to join another halau.

Joy (in the blue mu'umu'u above) was dancing 'Hi'ilawe', my #1 all-time favorite hula. Written by Sam Li'a Kalainaina, Sr., this song is about a love affair at Hi'ilawe which is the highest waterfall in Hawai'i and Waio'ulu, two waterfalls in Waipi'o Valley on the Big Island.

The group photo below is 'Hukilau' in which the audience participates in dancing the motions of the traditional fishing and eating at a luau.

In the middle photo, dressed in burgundy and wearing shell leis, Joy was dancing Mai Wakinekona (Call to Washington).

And in the lower pic (dressed in black), she's dancing 'Pua Lililehua' (The Lililehua Blossom).  At the bottom is 'Ka Makani Kaili Aloha'.

If anyone with Halau Ho'omau sees an error and I've misidentified the pics, please let me know.

Aloha pumehana e Hau'oli

FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Don't Save It All - Celine Dion

Another one I fell in love with...the words mean so much. Why not have compassion and love for others every day? Love is meant to be shared.   When it is, love expands, enriches and encompasses all, not just for the giver and receiver. And we are all the wealthier for it.  You can get the CD/DVD collection... These Are Special Times (W/Dvd) (Coll)

What a sweet, lovely story... Reminds me of our very first Smith family reunion beginning with the trip from Palau to upstate New York and the Catskill mountains.  I was 5 years old and my baby sister was barely 6 months old.  A dream it was then and a dream it is still...

Music / Kitaro / Full Moon / Video Credits / ESA Hubble / Text / Rab Adamson

Today I send you an energy boost to remind us all of the infinite wisdom that lies within. Let us allow this wisdom to guide us along our journey to move forward confidently. I share the boost embedded in the video with you in a spirit of unity, unconditional love and strength of character to free yourself of drama and conflict.

I welcome and embrace the energy boost from you so that I may do the same and gratefully acknowledge your part in the share. Thank you for all you do as healers, teachers and friends. By the way, I also post the energy share on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, so Join Me there, if you haven't already.

Enjoy the previous posts, and Happy Father's Day for all near and far. We got to celebrate with a midday brunch at an IHOP in downtown Riverside. The day started off with a little adventure when the first IHOP we went to had an emergency shutdown due to a kitchen fire...whew! Glad we had just sat down and hadn't ordered yet.

Remember to be present in every moment and live the passionate life you intend it to be.

Aloha pumehana (with blessings, love and affection)!

LOVE SIGNAL

Love signal is a healing audio and visual meditation with music, sacred geometry and Solfeggio frequency 528 Hz, the miraculous frequency for transformation and DNA repair.

There is a special sound and color of love according to Dr. Horowitz, a Harvard-trained award-winning investigator. Broadcasting the right frequency can help open your heart, prompt peace, and hasten healing. "We now know the love signal, 528 Hertz, is among the six core creative frequencies of the universe because math doesn't lie, the geometry of physical reality universally reflects this music; these findings have been independently derived, peer reviewed, and empirically validated," Dr. Horowitz says.

Love requires generosity.
 Love requires daring and expansion.
Above all, love requires a dance of differing distances.

There is both the pas de deux and the time for solo flight.
The dance of love contains both turns.

While cherishing our time together, I freely release my beloveds to pursue a separate path if that is their destiny.  Love connects despite distance. I hold my beloveds tenderly in my heart, trusting that the distance that separates us also brings us together, gifting us with a stronger appreciation of our unique bond.

Freedom is a requirement of real love.
I honor my beloveds with the gift of freedom.

Today, I open my hand. I release my loved ones to their separate and unique destinies. I cherish them tenderly within my heart while flinging asides the ropes of control that might bind them.

I love with an open hand and a resilient heart.

By Julia Cameron

Happy Valentine's day, everybody!  Today we celebrate the bond of unconditional love that unites us throughout time and space.  Let us honor those whom we have released from our past to find their blessings, those whom we have met and made part of ourselves as well as those whom we have yet to meet but greatly anticipate.

Thank you for being part of the share, you are what makes this all so wonderful and special.

Enjoy every moment and live the passionate life you intend it to be.

Energy Share for Sunday
December 20, 2009

The Breath of Spirit Breathes Through Me

I am a unique conduit for the good of the universe to flow into the world. As I listen and respond to my inner guidance, I bring to the world originality and opportunity. I have a unique healing presence which blesses those who know me. As I open my heart to being true to my own nature, I provide for others a personal and providential medicine.

We do not interact by mistake. I am placed where I am and with whom I am for many important reasons. As I become more fully myself, my individual personality brings specific gifts to those who surround me.

As I open myself to unfolding my own inner gifts, the gifts of my nature grace others in outward and material ways. My presence in this world is important. My attitudes and actions have importance. As I choose to be a healing and creative presence, I am a balm for a troubled world.

The grace of Spirit touches me and through me touches all I encounter.

Julia Cameron, "Blessings: Prayers and Declarations for a Heartful Life"

Today I share with you the beautifully inspiring video and words from Julia Cameron.  Let them transport you to a more harmonious place within yourself, feel the bliss and peace they inspire...a tranquil, heartfelt union with Spirit.

I gratefully accept the boost from you and embrace the loving kindness we all share in Oneness. Thank you for all you do as healers and friends and being a part of this energy share.

I've posted a couple of holiday songs that I've enjoyed over the years which have always held deep meaning for me. I hope you enjoy them as well, I'm sure any Celine Dion fan will. Another reminder that I've updated the links on the blog. Check them out, use them, share them with those in need. With the state of the economy, every gift we give ourselves and each other takes on greater meaning and value. Enjoy.

Remember to live the passionate life that you intend it to be.

Love and Blessings to you all,

Lydia

P.S. Just to let you know, with the exception of an occasional post over the next couple of weeks, I'll be taking a brief vacation from posting to the blog over the next Christmas and New Year's weekends. However, you are always welcome to post comments. Please feel free to do so and even volunteer to post a share message anytime.

Energy Share for Sunday
December 6, 2009

Today I share with you peace and love with the energy boost embedded in the video.  It's a perfect message of how the energy we give and receive in the share is amplified...."it's one thing to give energy, but if we give it to someone who is also giving back, then we build energy among ourselves..."

With a loving and open heart, let the energy help you recharge, rejuvenate, and reconnect. In times of conflict and drama, especially with our loved ones, let it help you to find compassion, forgiveness, and detachment from anger, frustration, and hate.  Let us remember to sing the song of peace in our hearts.  I joyfully and gratefully embrace the boost from you.

And...let us welcome a new friend to the share, Annette Maxwell, who's been a friend and fellow healer for some time...especially on Facebook!  Thanks for the gifts, Annette.

Even a small thing like an online game can help change our thoughts to believe in giving and accepting a gift.  According to the latest neuroscience research, the brain can literally physically change from the creation of new neural pathways as a result of consistently learning positive plasticity.  We can give and receive easily and naturally all the gifts and blessings abundant throughout the universe.  And with the share, that we deserve and accept the equal exchange of energy.

Thank you for all you do as healers and friends.  Enjoy the passionate life that you intend it to be.

Aloha pumehana (with blessings, love and affection)!

Lydia
