Mikhail Baryshnikov has always been one of the luminaries and standard by which a student of dance holds. I began studying dance at a very late stage in the islands of Guam and Hawaii. So, for me at the University of Hawaii Dance Theatre Department, he held an almost mystical presence and unattainable technical level of expertise which I could not have possibly met.
He, obviously, is still a great inspiration to adoring fans world wide, and it was a thrill to have seen him perform in Washington, D.C. when he was with the avant-garde White Oak Dance Project with Mark Morris (another huge inspiration).Mikhail Baryshnikov has always been one of the luminaries and standard by which a student of dance holds.
